How can we detect fake vs. genuine pure 100% Argan oil?
1 Country of Production.
Argan Oil is produced only in Morocco and in small quantities in comparison to other oils.

2 The Scent.
Cosmetic Argan oil has a nutty aroma. Strong smelling Argan oil that smells awful or rancid should obviously be avoided because it came from Argan shells that might have passed through the digestion system of goats and no one want to put that on their face or skin.
Argan Oil that has no smells is highly suspicious too, it could be entirely fake, or at least diluted. Many sellers buy seed from non trusted sources which most of the time come from Argan nuts that were produced from Argan shells that were digested by the goats. These types of Argan nuts when is pressed, produces Argan oil that has an awful smell of goat, and in order to get rid of the smell they use deodorization processes that remove it and, removes the nice nutty aroma and often the beneficial ingredients as well. At our supplier, Nadifi, they do NOT buy Argan seed. Nadifi buys the whole Argan fruits and let it dry in the blazing sun, and then with the help of women in the Berber villages, removes the cover and crack the shells to get the best Argan nuts.

3 Argan Oil and its Colour
Cosmetic Argan Oil should be smooth and silky, golden to yellow looking and fast absorbing. If the oil looks real clear, it could either be well filtered or fake.

4 The Sediment
Hand produced Argan oil should have tiny sediment at the bottom of the container or bottles, this type of oil is being replaced by cold pressed Argan Oil, using modern machines. Handmade Argan Oil is processed using water. Moroccan Authorities banned the export of handmade Argan Oil because of its dilutions with water, doesn't pass the lab analysis, and expires after only 6 months. Cold pressed machine produced oil can last up to 24 months according to FDA. It can have no deposited sediment if it's well filtered. The deposited sediment depends on whether the oil is filtered or not and how correctly filtered.

Our supplier, has ECO CERT and USDA, has a lab analysis of the oil (MSDS) safety sheet, registered by the Ministry of Agriculture and licensed to export Argan Oil
